Stephanie Kolkka

Stephanie is co-founder of Kolkka Furniture, Brick Monkey and Brick Monkey Squared.  She is a native of Redwood City and grew up in the retail business. Stephanie’s love of home and design was greatly influenced by her mother. “My mother was a designer, fabulous home renovator and art teacher and her passion for inventing clever design solutions rubbed off on me. My first job after high school was managing her retail store in Palo Alto and I loved it.” Stephanie has lived in exotic places such as Thailand and Saudi Arabia that has additionally informed her love of art and design. In opening Brick Monkey, Stephanie satisfied a long-time desire to return to retail and create a fun, inspiring store with a unique personality offering great style at sensible price points.

In addition to her involvement with the two Brick Monkey stores, Stephanie remains deeply involved with the operation of Kolkka Furniture, a custom design and furniture manufacturing business that she started with her husband John in 1985. Kolkka Furniture, located in Napa Valley California, has established a national reputation for design, custom manufacturing capabilities and excellent customer service, and is featured, among many other products, at Brick Monkey.

Gina Nicolo

Gina Nicolo

Gina co-owns Brick Monkey and Brick Monkey Squared with Stephanie Kolkka. Gina began her career in small business working part-time at Kolkka Furniture while in high school. She started out doing administrative work and was able to work her way up to Office Manager. When Brick Monkey opened Gina began working there as well. “Working with Stephanie changed my life. She was and still is such an inspiration to me. Through her mentoring I realized that I too wanted to be an entrepreneur.”

The combination of great mentoring, hard work, and business savvy paid off when Gina invested and partnered with Stephanie in Brick Monkey and opened Brick Monkey Squared. “I didn’t go to college, but I worked hard, learned a lot, and saved. This allowed me to own two successful stores with my mentor and best friend. At the age of 22 I have a career that I love and I couldn’t be happier.” Brick Monkey Squared is a charming shop a few blocks away from Brick Monkey. It appeals to everyone – male and female – the young and young at heart – where you can find one-of-a-kind, whimsical jewelry pieces, clothing, and accessories.
